Mary Lynn Thatcher

Mary L. Thatcher age 83, of Ravenna, MI died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon. Mary was born on December 4, 1933 to T. Thomas Thatcher, Sr. and Morienne (Lundquist) Thatcher in Ravenna. Mary attended Ravenna Schools, graduating in 1951 as class Valedictorian. She attended Muskegon Community College and Western Michigan University, graduating with her bachelor’s degree in 1955 and her Master Degree in 1961 from W.M.U. Mary began teaching for the Grandville Schools in 1955 and retired from Grandville schools after 38 years of teaching elementary children. Mary has been an active member of the Ravenna United Methodist Church for Seventy years, serving her church in many capacities as well as at the district level. She attended Garrett Theological Seminary and is a certified lay speaker. She is a founding member of M.A.R.S. (Missions Around Ravenna in Service) and still serves as a representative from R.U.M.C. Mary is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary society for outstanding women educators, serving as chapter president and at the state level. She currently volunteers at the Ravenna Area Historical Museum. Mary is survived by her brother: Duane L. (Patricia Bunce) Thatcher of Middleville, MI, her half-brothers: T. Timothy “Tim†Thatcher of Lansing and Charles (Bonnie) Thatcher of California, her niece Melissa Thatcher of Middleville, MI., her niece in-law: Danielle (Jeff) Ward of Tecumseh, grandnephews: Elia Hohauser Thatcher and Soren Ward, Grandniece: Veda Massanari-Thatcher. Mary was preceded in death by: infant brother: T. Theodore “Teddy†Thatcher, brother: T. Thomas “Tom†Thatcher Jr. her nephew T. Thomas “Tad†Thatcher III, DO., Sister in-law Geri Thatcher and her friend Barbara Huizenga. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ravenna United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 11:00am with Pastor Carl Black officiating with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
