Janis Kathleen Herman

Janis K. Herman age 63, passed away in her Ravenna home on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Janis was born November 14, 1947, the first child of Bernard and Marjorie Schultz. She is survived by George Herman whom she married on April 18, 1969. Janis graduated from Western Michigan University in 1969 with a B.S. and Grand Valley State in 1991 with a Masters in Social Work. She worked in several human service capacities retiring from family Court of Muskegon Co. at age 60. Janis is best remembered for her passion, sensitivity and adoration of her family especially her precious granddaughters. She loved to walk, read, collect antiques, have intimate conversations and travel the U.S. She relished the country life. She is at peace with the gratitude for the gentle arms of God that embraced her and for all the months of support she received from family and friends. She is also survived by her daughter Heather (Jason) Eskola, 2 Sons: J. Brett Herman and Jerid (Shawn) Herman. 4 Granddaughters: Madison, Emma, Sydney and Katherine. Her parents: Bernard and Marjorie Schultz. 2 Sisters: Denise (Thomas) Plaxton and Gayle (Edward) Mikos. 1 Brother: Alec Schultz and 5 Nieces and 2 nephews also survive. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be prayed on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 10:30am at St. Catherines Catholic Church in Ravenna with Father Fred Brucker celebrant. Burial will be in St. Catherines Catholic Cemetery. The family will be at the Funeral Home on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm to receive friends. Also on Friday at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Rosary will be prayed at 8:00pm on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to: Harbor Hospice or St. Catherines Endowment Fund. Janis had a positive impact on many people.Her legacy will remain from the commitment she made to helping local families and devoted love of her own family.I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I had to get to know Janis and to work with her. A warm heart , gifted and fun personality,a truly great lady.
