Darrel Lloyd Evans

Darrel Lloyd Evans, age 77 of Ravenna, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at his home. Darrel was born on January 6, 1935 in Muskegon to Jay and Viola (Landon) Evans, and served his country with the United States Army, including tours of duty in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, retiring after 22 years of service. Darrel was a decorated veteran, having earned the Silver Star, and 3 Bronze Stars during his enlistment, and was a member of the Harker Heights, TX VFW Post #3892, and the Reinhard Roman American Legion Post #537 of Conklin. In his retirement he remained very active, always working and tinkering on something. He loved old tractors, following NASCAR, and especially singing to his beloved Norma. Darrel will be greatly missed by his companion of 32 years Norma Henson, his sons Samuel (Cynthia) Evans of Walker, Bradley Evans of Texas, Douglas Evans of Ravenna, Darrel Evan Jr. and his companion Miranda of Muskegon, and Mitchell Evans also of Muskegon, his daughter Julie (Robert) Skellenger of Livermore, CA, 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, his brothers Gene (Patricia) Evans, Jim Evans, Bernard (Wilma) Evans, John Evans all of Ravenna, Bill Evans of Anchorage, Alaska, and Donald Evans of Cheyenne, Wyoming, his sisters Wanda (Lynn) Wood of Muskegon, Joann (Vernon) Ransom of Ravenna, and Corrine “Sis†(Richard) Kroning of Garden Grove, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held for Darrel at 1:30 PM on Friday, December 14 at the Throop Funeral Home in Ravenna, where military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army and the Conklin American Legion. Burial will follow at Bennett Cemetery in Chester Township. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
