Obituary

Joseph Vernon Young age 80, of Ravenna, Michigan passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the family centennial farm surrounded by his loved ones. Joseph was born on July 7, 1940 in Ravenna, MI on the family farm to the late RL and Gladys (Rollenhagen) Young. He married Kathleen Ruth (Hecksel) Young on October 12, 1968. Joseph is survived by his wife of 52 years, Son: Trevor (Kelley) Young of Ravenna. Daughter: Tammy (Rob) Deur of Conklin. 3 Grandchildren: Archer Deur, Emma and Eli Young. Sisters: Joy Nelson of N. Muskegon and Jane (Jerry) Cardinal of Ravenna. Brother In-law: Elmer Hoyle of Ravenna. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Enid Hoyle. Joe always had a love of farming and horses. He started horse pulling with his father’s draft horses at age 8, he was a volunteer at a therapeutic horse program and over the years he took many people on horse and buggy rides. Joe graduated from Ravenna High School in 1959. He was involved in sports and was Ravenna’s first FFA State Farmer Degree recipient. Joe was a hard worker his entire life and retired from Ravenna Pattern. Joe loved to read, travel, and meet new people. He spent recent winters with his wife in Alabama. He was a friend to everyone he met. Family was an important part of his life. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa. His home was always filled with nieces, nephews and neighborhood kids. His grandchildren were the joy of his retirement and they had many fun adventures together. He knew the Lord as his personal savior and was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Ravenna. There will be a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 2:00pm at the First Reformed Church of Ravenna with Pastor Steve VanderWoude officiating. The family will be at the First Reformed Church of Ravenna to greet friends on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00pm and again on Wednesday 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to: First Reformed Church or Harbor Hospice. At a later time the immediate family will have a private prayer service at the family farm where his ashes will be buried per his wishes.
