Karen Joyce Schultz age 74, of Ravenna, MI passed away on Monday, June 14, 2021 surrounded by her loved ones at Mercy Hospital. She was born July 10, 1946 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Joseph and Evelyn (VanDerlaan) Benkert. She met the love of her life Kenneth W Schultz at the Ravenna Bowling Alley and they were later married at St. Michaels Catholic Church on October 30, 1965. Karen enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she described as the greatest joys of her life. She loved wintering in Florida with her husband, reading, gardening, and decorating for the holidays. She was a valiant fighter who beat cancer twice and fought hard until she was called home to be with the lord. Karen is survived by her husband of 55+ years: Kenneth W. Schultz of Ravenna, Daughter: Kathleen Bonthuis and Son: Kenneth (Jennifer) Schultz Jr. Grandchildren: Meghan (Joshua) Haverkamp, Chelsey Bonthuis, Nathan Bonthuis, Alina Schultz, and Anah Schultz, Great Grandchildren: Ellery Haverkamp and Oliver Haverkamp. Brothers: Joseph (Sharon) Benkert of Florida, Ronald Benkert of Nunica and Richard (Margaret) Benkert of Grand Ledge. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and Sister In-law: Rosemarie Benkert. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 11:00am at Throop Funeral Home of Ravenna with Pastor Todd Benkert officiating. A luncheon will be hosted at the American Legion Hall of Ravenna immediately following the service. The family will greet friends at Throop Funeral Home of Ravenna on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and again on Tuesday at 10:00am.
